Amy Rowell, CPA, CGFM

Director of Financial Review Georgia Department of Education


Amy Rowell works for the Georgia Department of Education as Director of the Financial Review Division.  The Financial Review Division is legislatively charged with providing financial and budgetary support to all school systems in the state of Georgia.  The Financial Review Division provides district support of day-to-day accounting processes, as well as GAAP-related financial issues affecting school systems.  Financial Review also provides guidance related to state and federal compliance issues affecting school system finance offices.  Financial Review is also heavily involved as an integral team member of the Department of Education, providing assistance to the Federal Programs Division, Internal Audits, and Finance and Business Operations.


Ms. Rowell has over 19 years of experience working with school systems.  Prior to joining the Department of Education in 2014, Ms. Rowell worked as an Audit Supervisor with the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts (DOAA).  The majority of her experience with DOAA dealt with the financial audits of local school systems.  Ms. Rowell is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) as well as a Certified Governmental Financial Manager (CGFM).



Ms. Rowell received her Bachelors of Science in Accounting at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia.



Ms. Rowell is the daughter of two retired Georgia public educators, and graduated from Bartow County Schools in Adairsville, Georgia.  Ms. Rowell’s two sons attend Paulding County Schools.
